Bhai Dooj 2021: Dwitiya Tithi will start on November 5 at
11:14 pm and will remain until November 6 at 7:44 pm.
Today (November 6) is Bhai Dooj and it will mark the end of
the five days of the Diwali festival.
Observed on the second lunar day of Shukla Paksha (light
fortnight) in the Hindu calendar Vikram Samvat or the month of the Shalivahan
Shaka calendar of Kartika, Bhai Dooj is a festival where a sister applies tika
or tilak to her brother's forehead and the bless with good health and It's also
a day when sisters invite their siblings over for a full-fledged sumptuous meal
that includes their favorite dishes / desserts.

Just like rakhi, the
underlying meaning of Bhai Dooj is also to stress a brother's duty to protect
his sister. However, with several changes to the way the holidays are
celebrated and what they mean, Bhai Dooj is also about the whole family coming
together to celebrate union and unity.
In the traditional feast-watching style, the sisters first
perform an aarti of their brothers and apply a red tika to their brother's
forehead. This tika means the deepest and most sincere prayers of a sister for
her brother, in which she wishes her brother long life and happiness.
While the sisters perform the act of the tilak, the brothers
shower their sisters with love, blessings, and even gifts to make the day even
more special.

The auspicious festival of Bhai Dooj, known by many other names such as Bhai
Beej or Bhau Beej in Maharashtra and Gujarat, Bhai Tika in Nepal and Bhai Pota
or Bhsi Phonta in West Bengal, is celebrated all over India .
